Perfume
My Favorite Perfume Songs
Perfume is one of the J-pop groups I’ve been really into ever since I stumbled upon their music. Their style blends EDM, electropop, and that distinct J-pop sound in such a clean, futuristic way—it’s addictive. They've been active since 1999, which is wild considering how fresh and modern their music still feels. Their discography has this perfect mix of energy and emotion, and their visuals, choreography, and overall aesthetic are so uniquely them. If you're into shimmering synths, catchy hooks, and polished pop, Perfume is definitely worth checking out. I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite tracks to get you started—hope you find something you’ll keep on repeat.

Speak For Yourself
Imogen Heap
No, not the Taylor Swift one—I'm talking about Speak for Yourself by Imogen Heap. This album is a full-body experience: it's ear-cleansing, emotionally stirring, and somehow both nostalgic and futuristic at the same time.
Imogen's production feels like you're floating—like every beat and layered vocal is suspended in air just for you. What’s even more amazing is how influential this album is; chances are, you’ve already heard pieces of it sampled by other artists without even realizing it.
It’s a treasure chest of sounds that have rippled across genres. If you’re curious where to start, I highly recommend tracks like “Headlock,” “Goodnight and Go,” “Just for Now,” “Clear the Area,” “Have You Got It in You?” and “Loose Ends.” Each song feels like its own universe, full of little details that hit differently every time. This is an album that stays with you long after the last note fades.

To Hell With It
Pinkpantheress
You know, for a mixtape that introduced PinkPantheress to the world, it's surprisingly subtle in its genius. Her signature blend of liquid drum and bass, 2-step, and bedroom pop quietly slipped into the mainstream, carried by the power of TikTok and a new wave of Gen Z producers unafraid to bring back sounds that were once dismissed. EDM, especially in the 2010s, was often unfairly stigmatized—written off as loud, soulless, or oversaturated. But here she is, repackaging it with a soft, melancholic edge that makes it feel brand new.
What's clever is how she doesn’t immediately lean on those club beats. Instead, the first half of the tape pulls you in with gentle alt-pop and contemporary R&B songwriting—personal, reflective, and emotionally rich. The production stays in the background, quietly supporting her voice. Then, halfway through, something shifts. The beats begin to take center stage, not overpowering but guiding, like they’ve been waiting patiently for their moment. That transition is where this mixtape really comes to life, and you start to see PinkPantheress not just as a trend, but as an artist with real vision.
This project isn’t just a debut—it’s a quiet revolution. A nod to the past, a reinterpretation for the present, and a glimpse into the future of genre-fluid music. She’s not afraid to let her influences show, but she also isn’t defined by them. This tape is her lane, and she’s driving now.

Heaven Knows
Pinkpantheress
PinkPantheress's latest record is like flipping through a dreamy scrapbook of early-2000s memories, all set to a backdrop of sleek, shimmering production. The sounds are nostalgic, echoing the textures of that era, but they never feel stuck in the past. Instead, they float through your ears like you're hearing every amen break and garage loop wrapped in a soft Frutiger Aero bubble—familiar, yet transformed.
There’s a kind of quiet clarity to it all; the tracks explore themes of emotional detachment, yearning, and confusion, but never wallow. Instead, they keep a gentle, playful distance, as if telling you, “It’s going to be okay,” while you twirl your hair and lose yourself in the rhythm.
What makes this record stand out is how much growth it shows. Compared to the sample-heavy charm of her earlier work, this album leans more into original production and evolved songwriting, and you can really hear her refining her sound without losing what made it exciting in the first place. There’s a newfound confidence, an artistic sharpness that suggests she's not just a viral moment—but a lasting presence.
And while she’s still early in her career, this album feels like a signal of what's to come: a promise that she’s only getting started.

Fancy That
Pinkpantheress
I really like PinkPantheress's work. I think it's doing a great job of pushing dance pop forward, especially with the horrible tech-house slop the dance scene is wading through these days. Better yet, PinkPantheress has an unusual (for her generation) respect for old-school house and disco.
This mixtape continues to advance that, and her blend of influences becomes smoother and smoother. Her work stands apart from the many gen-Z DJs who constantly chase the high of Berghain, only to stay stuck at the frat house.
Samples like the Underworld one from "Illegal" show that she actually knows her stuff and loves the work that has come before her. I honestly really appreciate this about her and I hope that she continues to pop off--very few current DJs are making TikTok-able music that has such a rich system of influences.
